Yusuke wasn't sure about Magnus in the beginning, because he has a natural distrust in adults, and because he's a cautious person in general. Magnus's tendency to rush into things seemed like it'd be a surefire way of getting himself (or someone else) killed.
He wouldn't be intimidated by Magnus's attempts to bully a confession out of him in the second week, but when he insisted he was innocent even with no way to prove it, and Magnus was willing to believe him anyway, that was when Yusuke slowly began to gain respect for him. He's used to being wrongfully villainised by the public, and he kind of expected more of that from the Reaper's Game, so he was surprised not to be totally thrown under the bus by shitty self-interested adults??? THANK...
Aside from that, Magnus also gained his respect in the library and proving his usefulness in combat, and I think at that point Yusuke began to look up to him as a figure of leadership, when he didn't have Akira to rely on. Which... could have gone south worse than it did when Magnus lead them all into attacking Max but lmdsfk it's fine, they're fine.
ALSO LIKE finding out Magnus and Taako had been helping Akira was a huge plus point in his book towards endgame. overall, Yusuke really looks up to Magnus as a strong, reliable person who can be depended on to fight for the right thing. :|b
