week 4, thursday
[ On one of Shibuya's lovely (citation needed) Thursday afternoon, in the bookstore, in the far, far end of it, it seems like someone has forgotten to lock a door behind them. It is slightly ajar, letting out a weird, stale humid air...
Would you like to go inside? ]

Secret door!
no subject
Hm? Was that always open?
[...Well, a Phantom Thief can never say no to a secret passage. So he's setting the book aside, and heading to follow after.]
no subject
[she's going in, but as a word of caution...]
We should be careful.

So, you guys know there will definitely be some kind of dangerous puzzle and some monsters or giant spiders at the bottom here, right? Just making sure.
no subject
It wouldn't surprise me if there were. Even so, we're prepared to face any challenge, if it means discovering what lies at the other side. Right, Makoto?
[Still descending carefully, he glances back at his teammate for agreement.]
no subject
[she glances at Yusuke, and then takes another one of the torches. She has a feeling they're going to become necessary, for the sake of not tripping, at the very least.]
And... we may not get this opportunity again.
[And she's glancing at the walls, just to see if there's anything distinct about them. but. they're in a secret room, so who knows.]
no subject
[ this is her contribution, as she sneaks behind the group in the back like she's been there the whole time (because she has.) ]
no subject
When they finally get to the bottom, after walking and walking and walking and-- you get the idea, they'll be greeted with a large stone door. It's closed and mossy. There's a small puddle of water coming from underneath it. ]
no subject
[Can he just like, open it? Well, it doesn't matter if he can or not. He's bashing the door with his axe.]
no subject
[PUT THE AXE DOWN... but just in case they need to fight, Yusuke draws his kunai]
no subject
But if it prevents their way from being closed off... she's fine.]
no subject
[ never forget wildkat. ]
no subject
Oops.
Taking a peek inside, there's a few more stairs leading down... except they're halfway under water. They've come upon what looks like the ruins of a library. The stairs led to the second floor of a three story tall library, with most of the first floor being completely underwater except for the very top of some bookshelves. Circular and massive, this looks like it could've belonged in a fantasy movie.
On the ceiling, far above them, is what remains of a painting. In the background, if they concentrate, they can hear some soft music playing... ]
no subject
Hey, do you guys hear that? Honest opinion, is that lulling us into a false sense of safety before the sea monster music, or this is going to be a boring book based puzzle music?
[He goes down to the lowest step he can before his boots get wet, and then...handing the torch to, well, whoever is closest, he takes one of his useless anime swords and sort of strikes the water with it, to see if anything happens.]
no subject
[Yusuke takes the torch, but being Yusuke, he's... holding it aloft to get a better look at the painting above.]
Look there. It's an angel, but the figure is indistinct. And perhaps it's merely water damage from the damp conditions, but it almost appears as if it is aflame... or bleeding. What an unsettling image...
[there's never a bad time for art commentary, jsyk]
no subject
Regardless of if the music is giving us a false sense of security, can you please not announce our presence so recklessly?
[and then after that, she notices the painting... but she's more interested in the books. What sort of books would a secret library have? ... And where could she think of starting.]
no subject
[ mostly she's already regretting coming down here, but it's too late to go back up. but while makoto takes interest in the books, miki is more interested in finding a way up to the third floor. not like they can go any lower with the water, right? she walks up toward the shelves and puts her "everyday is leg day" to use, carefully beginning to climb up the large shelves like it's a mountain. ]

Striking the water doesn't seem to make it do anything except ripple. That angle does however let Magnus see inside the first floor. The water is shockingly clear, which means he'll be able to note the golden treasure chest at the bottom, smackdab in the middle of that flooded first floor.
Yusuke might feel like that faceless painting is watching him back. Haha, weird.
Makoto, meanwhile, will find that the books around her all have bland titles and covers. There's no summary on the back of any of them either, or even an author's name. The books simply have locations listed on them. One of the ones nearest to her is titled "Shibuya".
Miki successfully climbs the shelves, and once arriving on the third floor, will find that there was a somewhat crumbled staircase on the other side. At least she knows an easier way to get down now? The books over here have the same nondescript problem as the ones down on the 2nd floor, but her titles are a different kind. "Support", "Harrier", "Officer", "Game Master", "Conductor", and "Composer" are the ones closest to her. ]
no subject
[He takes a look up at the ceiling, but then peers down into the water to check out the treasure.]
Hey! There's loot down there. Someone hold my swords, I'm gonna see if I can get it. [Now also trying to hand off to Yusuke his two anime swords and his very heavy axe.]
no subject
I'm not your personal attendant! Honestly...
[His noodle arms can't even hold the axe for long, so he just leaves all three weapons propped against a bookcase, then moves to the edge of the water to get a better look at the treasure.]
no subject
The treasure is important to her— but she knows that treasures can come in all different forms.]
Magnus....
[a pause]
Are you sure you should jump in?
no subject
Do it Magnus - and share the loot! [ yelled from above the bookshelves as she settles into the third floor comfortably grounded. ] Yusuke, Makoto, think you can make your way up? There's a ton of books here too.
[ miki eyes the two books of "composer" and "conductor" and decides to take "composer" first to flip open. ]
no subject
Makoto's read through of the "Shibuya" volume will find that the table of contents, as well as most of everything else, is written in a language she can't read or identify. All but part of one page, at least. It's a bit damaged, but on it, she can read: ]
--- Game --- brought back from the brink by the actions of --- Composer's Proxy. ---- --------, chosen because he represented everything wrong with ------- according to --- --------, turned things around in a manner no one expected. Reports from our agent say that the -- is completely different now. Perhaps other Games will be so lucky. Reports of other Games being in similar ------ have been numerous as of late, but should things turn around, perhaps we won't have to...
[The rest is too damaged to read.
Miki's book suffers a similar fate language wise, though it's got far less water damage.]
The Composer is the leader of the Reapers and the ruler of the Underground. It falls upon the Composer's shoulders to create the rules for the Reapers' Game, and to judge the Players. The entire purpose of the Composer is to judge the worth of men. As the supreme commander of the Reaper's Game, the Composer generally has little direct contact with Reapers below the rank of Conductor. All their work is done through this second in command.
To make sure Composers stay on track with their purpose, as well as the continuing well-being of their respective Games, each one is assigned one of our own.
