kill log; ranpo & madara
[ Later on in the night, around 2 AM, Chuuya and Caren will find themselves waking up. With the target in mind, it won't take long for Chuuya to find Ranpo --- specifically, in A-East Alley. Oh boy. ]

RANPO
no subject
like an exceedingly extra shounen pseudo protagonist.
look up, chuuya. or he'll call out: ] Oi, Mr, Fancy Hat!
[ looks like curiosity is going to kill this cat. ]
Kiiiiinda late for you to be out, huh.
no subject
chuuya shoots him an annoyed look, forcing his posture into something more relaxed. it's fine, this is fine, he's just. out here.]
I could say the same for you. Is hanging around alleys at night a new hobby of yours, detective?
no subject
[ still perched overhead for the moment, ranpo cocks his head at chuuya. ]
Here to catch a murderer or two. [ cheerfully. ] That's always been my hobby, you know.
[ that's when he jumps down, still some distance away from chuuya, and it's only in this moment that I regret him buying new clothes this week because the cape would have made it Extra (tm) ]
Maybe a Reaper, even! [ dramatic sigh ] Nora-san told me you weren't though. That's a shame.
1/2 i need different icons here ok
[he actually seems a bit surprised at that, one brow raised-- were they close?
well, he supposes it won't matter now.]
It's funny, though-- sounds like we had similar ideas for once. Just helping to get this game to its end, right?
no subject
without warning, he draws a scalpel from its hiding place and launches himself at ranpo, trying to reach him before he can teleport away.]
no subject
just before chuuya reaches him, he's going to activate his psych and teleport a safe distance away, right into a crouch.
when he straightens, his grin his sharp, and there's a knife in his hand, bloodied blade turned outwards. ]
Heh. You're a bit more like Dazai-san than you think. I said I wouldn't go after you if you weren't a Reaper, y'know?
[ also, he's not taking his chances - immediately after egging chuuya on with that, he's going to teleport again.
hope you like playing tag, chuuya! ]
no subject
he just wants to fucking stab him.]
Don't you dare compare me to him-!
no subject
of course, this time around he doesn't have Poe-kun's ability to help, and while the president had made sure that most of the people in the Agency knew how to hold themselves in a fight, ranpo's more used to going after intellectual enemies, to be honest.
it's probably cruel (but kind of morbidly hilarious) that for a while, ranpo actually lets chuuya get close enough to be within striking distance, but he's practiced using his psych, that split second making all the difference between a hit and a miss as he blinks out of existence only to reappear somewhere else, just out of reach of chuuya somewhere in the middle of the alley.
is that playing dirty? of course it is. ]
Heh. You're going to have to try harder, Dazai-san would have predicted where I was going to land.
[ when in doubt, egg on harder. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ ]
no subject
I've been told recently that man and I would have a few things in common.
[The words are spoken more or less exactly when Caren steps into Ranpo's line of teleportation, having watched his pattern and moving quickly enough to get in the way of his trajectory.]
no subject
there's a loud CRASH when ranpo literally lands on top of caren - of course the probability of there being an accomplice is high, that's something that he himself would have done - it's only sheer instinct and adrenaline, calculation of probabilities in his head regarding weapons and likely courses of action that he throws up his arm to shield his face at least, the other one, the one with the blade outward knife, slashing blindly at the vicinity of caren's face before he rolls off
pops about ten metres away deeper into the alley
painfully aware of his back almost against the wall by this point. ]
Haaah. I don't doubt that, actually. [ pleasant, genial. because honestly, it's the easiest way to piss people off. ] I like him much better than I like you, though.
no subject
[it dulls that anger, at least, to have an enemy with a knife right on top of his partner-- but he can't afford to stop. if she's hurt, he can heal it. if he lets up on ranpo, he could potentially get enough distance to vanish, and chuuya won't let that happen.
it takes only a second for him to choose pursuit, pressing forward to launch another attack with a growled curse under his breath.]
no subject
The scalpel moves as soon as the knife does, in a reciprocal swipe, but Ranpo's lash-out hits flesh. Her face opens up cheek-to-jaw, deeply enough to lacerate multiple layers of skin and thicker flesh. For a moment she wonders if he managed to lacerate the cheek straight through to the mouth, but she discards that worry immediately. No dwelling until she stops. Caren's already flicking blood off of her face even as she rotates and follows them.]
Chuuya. Stay with him. [And stay calm, goes unsaid. She'll try to intercept one of the next teleports.]
no subject
there's a steady sound of blood dripping, soaking the shorn fabric before it leaves drops of blood on the floor. they're persistent. he'll give them that, at least.
for a moment, no one moves.
then ranpo tightens his grip on the knife, and that's the only thing that preempts ranpo's attempt to teleport towards caren, knife outstretched and poised to strike, this time somewhere potentially fatal--
no subject
Please understand.
[Her eyes move rapidly in the dark. She takes one step back, then two, trying her best to block since it's almost impossible to evade. Those seconds feel impossibly elongated, but she knows that, for however short a time, Ranpo is paying attention to her and her alone. She could be grateful for that, at least. It's respectful.] We had our reasons.
no subject
this time he doesn't shout to caren, or threaten ranpo first. this time he's wholly focused on watching ranpo, eyeing his intended target as he closes in. regardless of what happens, or how much he manages to hurt caren before chuuya reaches him... the moment he's in range he reaches to grab ranpo by the back of the neck, bringing the scalpel around to his throat.
one swift motion should be all it takes. the last thing chuuya says to him is-]
You should've known it would come to this.
no subject
the knife lands, but it's at the same time where chuuya grabs ranpo by the back of his neck, so what should have landed true goes off a little bit, just enough to make the difference between life and death. ]
I had mine, too, Caren-san. [ there's something dark, adrenaline and something else, green eyes glittering behind his glasses with something that isn't quite anger, but looks quite smug, all the same.
the steel of the scalpel is cold when it's pressed against his throat, draws the faintest amount of blood from how sharp it is, and ranpo laughs. ]
Reasons far bigger than the both of you could ever know.
[ there's a sharp grin on his features, because he's not afraid. ranpo edogawa has ever only been afraid once in his life, and it was a long time ago - he's stubborn, childish enough that he lets his grudge bleed through to his next words, lets the hatred and the arrogance spill over into a snarl, and his last words are ostensibly a dare: ]
I'll see you again soon, anyway.
no subject
he wants this over with. wants him gone.
chuuya nods to caren, giving her a silent gesture to tell her to get back, don't get too much blood on you, before he draws the blade across ranpo's throat in one decisive movement.]
no subject
shallow, ragged gasps of breath
hands falling limp by his side
ranpo's body seizes
and when chuuya finally drops him, he collapses with a dull thud, a trace of laughter still evident on his features.
Ranpo Edogawa has been Erased. ]
cw caren
This is a little bit of both, and Caren feels a weird pit inside her where she thinks the guilt is, dwarfed by another, stronger feeling. Adrenaline. Pain. Excitement. She doesn't quite laugh, but when she opens her mouth to speak, she's panting.]
I'm sorry. That was more difficult to execute than I anticipated.
no subject
[he didn't exactly expect her to take ranpo out for him, hadn't been entirely sure how she'd hold up in this situation-- but it's going better than he'd worried it would, so far. that's one down, with both of them still here.
chuuya reaches up to touch her cheek, making as little contact as possible while he heals it; the blood can stay, it'll be convincing, but he can't risk the wound leaving a mark.]
You did well, Caren.
--but we're only halfway done. Don't lose focus, alright?
no subject
While he's stitching her up, Caren grabs Chuuya's wrist with her scalpel-less hand.]
Be careful not to clean things up too much. I am not confident in the veracity of my performance, so any bit helps.
no subject
[with her face healed, he turns his attention to the stab wound; it takes more focus, leaving him quiet for a moment while he works, still trying not to get too much of her blood on him.]
The blood should be enough, shouldn't it? Or do you still need some kind of injury.
no subject
[Caren glances down at Ranpo's corpse, at the blood still welling beneath him. If a bloody woman shows up in front of Madara in no visible distress, they could have an even worse time.]
It's all right. Just don't go overboard.
no subject
[he hates doing this, but if it's for the sake of pulling this off--
chuuya grits his teeth and strikes her other cheek before he has a chance to talk himself out of it. it should definitely leave a mark.]
There, that'll do it-- hurry up, okay?
MADARA
no subject
second off, i could only hope to be as extra my partner up there but I guess i'll do my best here. when madara wakes up and it's ass— er, really late o'clock, he's quick to figure out what's going on and that he's on the chopping block. tough luck, huh? too bad though he doesn't give a fuck about every man for himself on murder night. ranpo's not where he's supposed to be sleeping, that's the first thing he checked when he woke up. if he's gonna die, then let him have that closure of finding his partner.
he would have flipped over underground shibuya in the dead of night if it came to that. but he finds his partner's body soon enough. it's pretty obvious how he went out, with blood from his neck and everywhere. should he be horrified? nah. ]
You look like you're trying to laugh... I'm a little jealous you could.
[ he laughs bitterly, wrapping ranpo in his cape. it's useless because he couldn't save him at all, so it's fine for him. he just wants to move the body out of the open like that. let him do that much? sorry guys on friday for messing up the scene of the crime, you can surely figure it out.
he finds a spot to set him down, probably near a wall. he's been sort of cautious for danger, but it's at its lowest now, right when he lets go of ranpo and has to get back on his feet. your cue, murder duo. ]
no subject
Madara Mikejima? [Caren rubs her palm across her messy cheek, smudging the dirt and blood there.] We need to get out of here right now! Something came after us and we ran. I can't find Chuuya...
[Anyone who's been listening to her speak about or to her partner for the past couple of weeks will recognize that she's dropped his last name for the first time tonight. She thinks it might make her look very frightened, if she's doing something like that.]
no subject
[ his reaction is instant when he hears about danger, straightening his posture. not so much for him, but for her. it seems like he falls for her frightened act? at the very least, he's an easily convinced man. chuuya is a good person. eleanor said he wasn't a reaper, and ranpo added that he's been keeping an eye on him because they have some history. he trusts that? ]
Okay then. We can find him, or keep moving... Either one is good. You said I don't seem to have any wrong intentions, remember? Please believe that.
[ he smiles for her and takes Caren's hand firmly, innocently and unaware, yet also serious about what thinks he thinks he should do, if there's nothing else for him. he won't make it to next week, he feels that doom creeping down his back, but he's stubborn about being like this to the end. helping, doing something than grieve. ]
I'm a goner, but I can help you and Chuuya-san... Let's go.
[ madara tugs caren along, so they can get away, maybe find her partner. he isn't really thinking of where or how they should escape, just "find somewhere that could be safer, or finding chuuya as fast as possible". he acts faster than he thinks for these things. but his path is predictable because the area is narrow and there's only two obvious exits out. you gotta appreciate shibuya's alleys and streets for their straightforwardness. ]
no subject
They're only half done, and she doesn't do things in halves. Will she feel differently when this one is done?]
...Why do you say that? [For just a second, the normal, deep-seeded caring and genuine interest are back in her voice. Calling himself a goner seems preemptive, makes her worry that he might have different ideas. She tightens her grip.] Surely, if we stick together, it's better?
no subject
Sorry. My partner is dead, and I'm awake in the dead of night to find him. I'm terribly awake when I should be asleep like everyone else, who will definitely see the next morning again.
[ he likes being alive. he very much wants to keep living (or close to it, maybe "he still wants to play this game" is more accurate). so, he's trying his best rather than give up his life and even if caren and chuuya are awake too, apparently... he didn't realize he'd grab her hand when his are smeared with some of ranpo's blood from earlier. ]
If you want to believe it's better, it's better!
[ he stop and turns to look her right in the eye. when they aren't moving, it's eerily quiet. he wonders if was just hearing something behind them. ]
But having your partner will actually keep you here as a player.
...Chuuya-san isn't too far off from here, right? Even you had to split up, finding you would be a priority if he wanted to know he's going to make it.
[ the hand around hers quivers, just a little. ]
no subject
And that was stupid, given Caren's newfound inability to have faith in anything at all.
The trembling hand in her own makes her stop fleeing, and she feels her fingers slip in Ranpo's blood. She turns to face Madara in case she has to defend herself again.]
Yes, I am sure that he will be able to locate us soon. It would be difficult and painful to survive in this game without a partner, wouldn't it.
no subject
chuuya arrives on cue, caren's shroud in hand; when he finds her facing madara instead of leading him on, though, chuuya shifts to hold it in one hand instead, silently preparing himself. this isn't exactly according to plan--
it's fine, though. this will work. he keeps his steps light and quiet, attempting to get as close to madara as possible without being heard.]
no subject
I don't know him well, and much less so than my partner. But he was someone diligent, I can tell that much.
[ he makes that simple assessment in an effort to ease what he thinks are worries when it's damaged resolve... and he stops staring so intently at her to figure it out, one foot stepping back a little. Ah, something's not right here, instinct kicks in and so do his doubts that have finally caught up. ]
I can also tell that ominously direct way of talking sounds more like you, Caren-san. I guess you'll actually be okay tonight then. Be thankful.
[ she gets a small, gentle smile from him, the last one he'll probably give tonight. for a second he considered pushing caren aside to run ahead, see if his track skills can save him from whatever chuuya's going to do. but instead... just for there to be no more doubts, he turns and looks behind him for chuuya, with an expression bracing for whatever's coming to him. too bad caren's partner has closed the distance quite well and unnoticed in the meantime. ]
no subject
so when madara turns and finds chuuya all too close, chuuya quickly closes the distance with a solid punch aimed at his gut, intended to double him over and hopefully catch him off guard.]
no subject
Guh—!
[ out of reflex, pain, and getting the wind knocked out of you, he tries desperately to hold himself together. But, that doesn't help with putting up a fight or properly defending himself if his arms are busy. he does get himself to tilt his head up, just to look defiantly at his attacker. ]
Ranpo... You...
[ hoarse it may be, it almost sounds like he's asking. ]
no subject
[And that's why Caren can't help but be honest with him now that it's soon-to-be-over.
She flinches when it happens, a wince accompanied by a twist tight between her lungs. The sound of Madara's breath being knocked out of him hits her too, but whether what she feels is sympathy or motivation is difficult to tell.
Caren's blood-smudged mouth opens for a second, as if she might call out to Chuuya and make him stay his hand.
She remembers that not everyone can be saved and closes it again, flanking Madara in case he, like Ranpo, tries to run.]
no subject
for now, chuuya says nothing as he quickly unwinds the shroud and takes the opportunity to fold and wrap it, thick and tight, to cover madara's nose and mouth and ensure he's blocking the airflow. it won't be as quick as cutting ranpo's throat was, but he intends it to be less messy.]
no subject
that doesn't mean he isn't going to be trouble in his final moments when he sees, then feels the red shroud against his face. if you think he's going to to take death by smothering standing when ranpo probably had some fun before he died... you've got another thing coming. he knows he can't run, he knows chuuya can heal off anything he could get on him... it's fruitless, pointless.
but for the sake of irony when he can so easily bring people up literally and emotionally, he's going to use the last of his strength and the position he's in from the sucker punch to tackle chuuya straight to the ground. even as he's getting smothered in the process. ]
no subject
[he's holding the shroud tight with both hands, so he can't really use his arms for balance or do much of anything except keep holding on even as he's tackled, determined not to let go.]
Caren, stay back-
[she wouldn't be able to overpower him, chuuya's fairly sure. he's busy trying to knee madara in the stomach while they're both on the ground here.]
no subject
chuuya gets that knee in though. he doesn't make a sound, he's been quiet since he decided to go down like this. but he loses his own balance from the push, landing on his side and off of chuuya. he doesn't regret the effort, he can think that faintly before it's over. ]
no subject
It was a good try.
[chuuya will give him that much before he's gone. some people wouldn't have put up a fight at all.]
Go join your partner, Mikejima.
no subject
funny, someone he knew when he was alive had gagged him quiet with her own hands, and he complained he thought he was going to die. what a nice life, where he could joke like that and forgive her easily. he isn't going back to it, but at least he had it and the time here. he'll apologize to maya later.
falling unconscious like this is surprisingly less panic-inducing for remains of his consciousness. these two get that cleaner kill, madara gets a death with some of the blanks filled in. his hands slipping from their grasp and his body going still are the cues that chuuya's job is finished. finally, huh? when he pulls that cloth away, his eyes are closed with an almost serious expression.
madara mikejima is dead. ]
no subject
Been a while since I had to do it this way. Are you holding up alright...?
[considering, you know. he's dragged her into all this to erase a couple of people they seem to have been wrong about. chuuya has his concerns about how she'll feel, now.
he reaches up to heal the bruise he'd left on her cheek, watching her face; they just have to finish up, but he'll take a moment to feel this out first, make sure she'll still follow through.]
no subject
She stands before Chuuya does, eyes automatically turning to the side as he works on the welt from her blow.]
There's no need to ask after me. [It isn't exactly an "I'm fine," but it's the closest she'll deliver in this situation.] Were you hit?
[Caren exhales a breath that she's been holding onto for a while. It's shuddering, but when she looks back at Chuuya's face, Caren almost smiles. It's relieved.]
no subject
[he finishes healing her up and lets his hand drop back to his side, giving her a little smile back before glancing down at madara's body.]
I'll move him somewhere else, you go back to Edogawa and check out the scene. We've just got to make sure it doesn't point right to us.
no subject
[Once everything is healed, she tries wiping a little more blood for her face, though with most of it dried by now, it's much more difficult than before.]
Madara Mikejima... left his cloak on the body. An unexpected piece in the puzzle.
[What does he think they should do with it.]
no subject
[and for the sake of getting this all in order and having info in one easy place, here's what they're doing!
after chuuya leaves madara's body outside the live house, off to the side (since there are like, beds in there now), he'll get the cloak from caren and put it back on madara, leaving him there.
and for ranpo, chuuya will add those stab wounds to his lower back. he's seen what icicle stabs look like thanks to the ikea adventure and he's trying to replicate about five of them with the scalpel, twisting it and cutting as necessary to make rounder wounds before leaving wet spots staining the fabric around them.
they'll clean the scalpels they used with alcohol, but with the black blood on ranpo's knife mixed with caren's, it will remain uncleaned and will be in ranpo's hand. why the fuck is it that color? they don't know. but it could point to something besides them so it can stay. they're also not cleaning up the blood splattered on the alley ground from their fight with ranpo, enjoy your scattered blood y'all, they don't have time to waste on it.
finally, getting rid of the other evidence. they'll quickly clean up and change in a bathroom before having caren take their old, damaged, bloody clothes to a trashcan in the a-east area, douse them with more alcohol (particularly her yellow dress, as it's more distinctive) and turn the match + spray paint into a little flamethrower to set it ablaze. the remainder of the can plus another will get tossed in for good measure to ensure it gets nice and fiery in there. the scalpels also go into the trash. probably another wash to try to make sure caren doesn't smell a lot like their fuel and they got everything off them.
if the mcd's isn't 24 hours or something so they have restroom access then they'll. work something out. get some water and use clean parts of their clothes to try to wash probably? mostly noting this in case we get smell checks etc bc they are Trying.]
