They are survived by █████████████. They will be remembered fondly by those who knew them. Funeral services are being withheld until after ███████████ completes their stay in the Underground. [community profile] reapsody is a short-term murder game based on the video game The World Ends With You. Characters will wake up in an alternate Shibuya, known as the Underground, after being killed in their respective universes. The characters will be tasked with surviving the Reaper's Game in order to gain a second chance at life.
#MECHANICS Reapsody is based off of mafia and murder mystery style games. If this is the first time you’re participating in a game like this, it’s fine! Once the game gets started it’s fairly easy to pick up on the swing of things as it goes, and we will also do our best to answer any and all of your questions as well. Reapsody in particular is a partner-style game, which basically means your characters are paired off and their survival depends on one another! For any further questions on partners, please look at our FAQ.

Every week, the minimum of one [1] character will be killed off. The surviving characters will have to try to figure out who the killer is based on evidence left at the crime scenes as well as discussions amongst each other. There will be special roles, given to specific characters, to ensure that the game moves along in a satisfactory manner. More information on roles will be presented below.

Reapsody follows a 1:1 IC:OOC schedule. Monday in game is equal to Monday in real life. Times are also reflected both ICly and OOCly. Any deadline given to the characters in game is also for the players OOCly. There are certain posts where the time ICly will differ from OOCly, such as the investigation, but we will let you know of those. All times are EST.

Monday - Thursday: The weekly mingle will go up at 12 PM every Monday. Special events will be posted every week in the mingles, and those times will be specified once the game starts. Please use the posts to make top levels and create CR opportunities with the rest of your players!

Friday: Every Friday evening at 6 PM an investigation will be posted. Characters will be tasked with discovering who that week’s victim(s) is and collecting all evidence. Details on how investigations work in this game will be revealed the first week, but just keep in mind that it won't be exactly how it is in regular murder games as it is more interactive.

Saturday: Every Saturday at 12 PM, the trial will go up! Characters (and players) will have until 9 PM to figure out the identity of that week’s killer. After voting closes, the character with the most votes will be locked away by the Host and taken to gay baby jail.

Sunday: Following the trial, an execution post will go up at 2 PM. The character with the most votes will then be executed by whichever character was chosen to be that week’s executioner.

If your character has a special role, they will have an additional schedule to adhere to on top of this one. This schedule will be given to the players once they’ve accepted the role.
#ROLES Roles will be given out at around the same time as application acceptances. While the mafia and detective factions are generally traditional in regards to their function in the game, there are some key differences that may affect your playing. These differences will be explained in more detail in the application form so you can consider them before volunteering to have a role. Please note that the terms "detectives" and "mafia" are only used OOCly. ICly, the mafia will be known as Reapers.

The Mafia: Your usual group of characters whose job is to kill one person every week. It’s up to the rest of you to figure out their identities and exactly why they’re doing this. Good luck.

The Detectives: A group of characters who have been given special information and skills in order to track down the Mafia from behind the scenes.

Everyone else: All the characters who don’t get a faction role will fall here! Don’t worry if you weren’t picked for a special role, because there will still be things that you will be able to do that will be revealed once the game starts going.
#MURDER As mentioned above, every week at least one character will be killed off. The murder will take place during the curfew hours between Thursday and Friday. Investigation will take place early Friday morning after the curfew lifts, and characters will discover who is no longer with them. As previously stated, we have a system in place to assure that we'll have at least one body to work with, but we encourage people to participate in independent kills.

The trial will take place the following day on Saturday and will last for a total of nine hours. We will consider giving an extension on a case by case basis, but we reserve the right to deny an extension request if we feel as if there is no real need for one. All characters must have their vote in before 9 PM. Voting serves as the game's activity check, and anyone who does not have their vote in by that time will be killed off in the execution post on Sunday. If you know beforehand that you will not be able to vote in a specific trial, please let the mods know immediately so we can excuse you from voting.

The execution vote will be done OOCly, and will be ICly explained as the Host choosing who the executioner is. We will close voting for this by Saturday 11 PM, the same day as the trial, so we can discuss plans with the chosen executioner and the person being executed. Depending on the schedule of the people involved, the time that the execution post goes up may change, but we will let everyone know beforehand if that is the case.
#MONEY Unfortunately, even Reapsody has fallen under the evil clutches of capitalism and consumerism. Characters will be able to purchase items such as food, clothing, medicine, and even weapons to make their time in Shibuya more comfortable.

Characters will be getting a weekly allowance every Monday when the new mingle goes up. There are a variety of other different ways to obtain money as well. Characters will be given extra money depending on how well they do at certain tasks, such as trials or the events we put up every week.

“Does this mean I have to do math?” you ask, already getting ready to delete your reserve. Don’t worry! We, the mods, will be keeping track of any and all transactions made during the game. This won’t be a feature that we will be incredibly hard on, so if your character is a little short on cash we won’t block you from purchasing something (unless you actually want that to happen). Why the system is in place will become clear as the game progresses!
#FAQ How similar to The World Ends With You will this be? Do I need to be canon familiar to participate?

This won’t just be a rehash of TWEWY’s plot! We are borrowing a lot of the mechanics from the video game, but we want to also make this an original and interesting experience for you at the same time. So no, you don’t have to be canon familiar to play.

How long will this game last?

Anywhere between 1-3 months! Partner games where one character’s life is tied to another’s tend to go a little faster than non-partner games, so depending on how this game is played there is a chance it may be on the shorter side. Again, it’s up to you!

Help, this is my first murder game!

That’s completely fine! If you’re new to this genre, we will do our absolute best to make sure everything is clear and easy to follow. Please feel free to come to the mods if you have any questions.

What is a partner game?

In a partner game, two characters are put into a team together. While they aren’t necessarily required to work together, their lives will be connected. If character A in a team gets murdered on Thursday, then character B will be killed Sunday. There will be special circumstances where a character can bypass this. For example, if character A is killed because of a lack of activity, we won’t punish character B for it. We have other things planned for how the partner system in this game works, and they will be revealed as the game gets rolling!

If my character dies does this mean I can’t play anymore?

Nope! While your character will no longer be able to participate in the posts that are posted to the main community, there will be a graveyard for any dead characters to interact in. Characters in the graveyard will be given their own things to do in order to help further the plot of the game. There are no activity requirements in the graveyard though, so you won’t be forced to participate in it if you don’t want to.

What happens if I need to drop from the game?

Life happens, and we know that unexpected situations may pop up that will require you to leave the game early. We will have systems in place in case a player has to bow out for whatever reason. However, know that any drops or inactivity will negatively impact the game for everyone still playing, so please heavily consider your availability before applying to this game.

What does [x] mean?

Here's a quick rundown of terminology! Reapers are your mafia, Players (with a capital p) are the regular "villager" type people, erasure is the stand-in for murder, the Composer is Reaper's boss/the one in charge of making the game and reviving people, and Noise are animal-like monsters your characters can fight during their stay in the Underground.
#OOC RULES 1. There is a high chance that your character may die. If you join the game, you are agreeing to the fact that you may be killed off any week. Your character may also be maimed, disfigured, psychologically traumatized, or other not very good things. While we won’t force any of the latter on your character without your consent, please be aware that these things will still be happening to other characters so if any of these are deal breakers, this might not be the right kind of game for you!

2. Please do not blur IC with OOC. Do not leak information you have obtained ICly to players OOCly, especially in regards to roles or other sensitive information. On that note, do not infomod with any OOC information you might have that your character ICly does not. We want to make this as fair for everyone as possible.

3. Try to be as active as you can. We can’t stress enough how important activity is to a murder game, for both plot and character development. If you are having trouble adjusting to the setting or coming up with ideas, please come to us and we will help you out as best as we can!

4. All canon powers will be nerfed. However, you will be able to choose a psych ability for your character to have for the duration of their stay in Shibuya. While there will be certain times where they will be blocked from using their abilities (and we will inform you of when these times are), they will have free reign over them for the majority of the time.

5. While we do not have a limit on apping from new canons, we do ask that anyone apping a character from a series released within the last three months (January until March) to be careful with spoilers!

6. Please tell the mods before leaking any plot or important information to the general game. If you’re not sure whether your info falls under that bracket, just ask!

7. Above all, be respectful to your fellow players and mods and have fun!
